Song Dynasty
(Northern)

The Northern Song Dynasty was a golden age of Chinese culture, economy, and technology. It saw advancements in printing and trade, along with flourishing urban centers. Landscape painting and Neo-Confucianism thrived, shaping Chinese aesthetics and philosophy. The most famous emperor is Emperor Huizong (r. 1100 – 1126), renowned for his artistic talent and patronage of the arts. Despite economic strength, military weaknesses led to its downfall when the Jurchen-led Jin Dynasty captured the capital, Kaifeng, forcing the court to flee south, marking the transition to the Southern Song Dynasty.
